Steel is almost always the right choice for a home garage. The weight advantage of aluminum doesn't matter when the cart stays in one place, and steel's strength and lower cost make it the better value. Look for powder-coated steel with 14-18 gauge construction.
For Mobile/Job Site Use
Aluminum wins for anything that gets moved frequently. Truck tool boxes, portable tool kits, and job site storage benefit from aluminum's lighter weight and corrosion resistance. The higher upfront cost pays off in portability and longevity.
